Tips on Dealing With Loneliness In Your 20s

Have you felt lonely? As someone who thrives on being alone that “alone and me” time, I struggle with putting myself out there and getting out there. That leads to … well, loneliness.

I first want to say, you’re not alone. Loneliness is a common feeling that many people, ESPECIALLY those in their 20s, struggle with. It's a time when you're trying to figure out who you are, what you want to do with your life, and where you fit in. However, when you're feeling lonely, it can be hard to focus on anything else. In this blog post, we'll discuss some tips on how to deal with loneliness in your 20s. Because we’ve all been there, right?

Disclaimer: these are all tips on combatting loneliness and taking care of yourself all on your own. If you are feeling lonely, anxious, or struggling with your mental health, I recommend counseling.

Get involved in your community.

If you’re an introvert, please stay with me. Although meeting new people can be intimidating, getting involved in your local community is a great way to combat loneliness. Joining a club or group that interests you can help you meet new people and form friendships with like-minded individuals. Volunteering is also a great way to give back to your community while also meeting new people. You could volunteer at your local library, food bank, or community center. Not only will you feel good about helping others, but you might also make some new friends along the way.

Focus on your hobbies. (Or start new ones!)

Focusing on your hobbies is another great way to deal with loneliness. Doing things you enjoy can help you feel happier and more fulfilled. It's also a great way to meet new people who share your interests. For example, if you enjoy playing sports, you could join a local league or club. If you're into reading, you could join a book club. The possibilities are endless, and the more you put yourself out there, the more likely you are to meet new people and form friendships.

Try not to compare yourself to others.

It’s easy to hop on social media, begin scrolling, and see a lot of different people traveling, hanging out with friends, or doing whatever and having a good time—and then you feel like crap. I know this is easier said than done, but try not to compare your life to what you see on the ‘gram. Remember, Instagram is a highlight reel. As long as you keep to your lane, stay in your lane or whatever, and be yourself, you’re doing good.

Take care of yourself.

Taking care of yourself is essential when dealing with loneliness. It's important to eat well, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep. Don’t neglect your physical nor mental health. It can be easy to stop taking care of yourself while you’re struggling with loneliness, and that can lead to increased anxiety and depression. Additionally, taking care of yourself means doing things that make you feel good. This could be taking a relaxing bath, going for a walk in nature, or treating yourself to your favorite meal. Take care of yourself first, learn what you love to do, learn what you enjoy doing. When you're feeling good, you'll be more likely to attract positive people and experiences into your life.

Loneliness can be a difficult feeling to deal with, but it's important to remember that you're not alone. By getting involved in your community, focusing on your hobbies, and taking care of yourself, you can combat loneliness and start living a happier, more fulfilling life. Remember, it's never too late to make new friends and form meaningful connections with others.
