The Best of Selena Gomez’s Music, Right Before Her New Album Drops

“My doctor say you’re no good

But people say what they wanna say

And you should know if I could

I’d breathe you in every single day.”

In honor of Selena Gomez releasing her new music video at midnight (10/23), I thought I’d do a roundup of all my favorite (and least favorite) songs by the great artist herself. From Another Cinderella Story to Wizards of Waverly Place to between relationships with the Biebz and The Weeknd—Selena Gomez has been through it all. And her music has withstood the test of time. Her music has evolved into something personal, real, and truly something magical. And let’s be real: does she have any bad songs?

“Bad Liar”—(see what I did there?) I’m not really into this song, I tend to skip it whenever it comes on. But there are some moments where I just leave it, turn up the volume, and dance it out. It’s sultry, smooth, and has a good rhythm. Which is a common theme among her songs.

“Fetish” (feat. Gucci Mane)—This is definitely a song that whenever you hear it on the radio, you jam out to it. But it’s not one of my favorites, and that’s OK because I still love it! I mean, Gucci Mane is in it, so how could you not like it?

“The Heart Wants What It Wants”—I used to sing this song at the top of my lungs, in my room, to the guy I had a crush on in high school and college. I watched her perform it at the AMAs in 2014, two years after her very messy and public breakup with Justin Bieber. The heartbreaking, tear-jerking performance she gave made me put this song on repeat forever, that is, until Taylor Swift released her Reputation album and then I was hooked.

“Back to You”—Selena Gomez is an executive producer on the Netflix original 13 Reasons Why. So there’s no wonder that she even wrote a song for the show. I’m not so sure when Back to You is played in the seasons, but I’m pretty sure it’s when Clay realizes he was in love with Hannah Baker all this time (season one), and he envisions what it would be like if he told her that before she died, and they went to Homecoming together and then they walked the hallways to happily ever after. I like this song, it has potential.

“Come & Get It”—this is a hype party song, let me tell ya. Turn this on when in your room, when you have the aux cord, or when in the car with your gal pals—and DANCE IT OUT. Selena Gomez released a bunch of songs like these, and I tell ya—they’re highly underrated. These songs are hits. This song especially talks about loving her ex (Justin?) and says over and over again “when you’re ready come and get it.” Iconic.

“Same Old Love”—This is a beat. Remember her performance at the AMAs in 2015? She freaking killed it. As what she does with all of her performances, nbd. If this doesn’t have you screaming this at your ex, I don’t know what will (wait, Taylor Swift’s Reputation album will do).

“Birthday”—I recently had a birthday, helloooo. (Libra szn) Tell me something I don’t know, I played this song about a hundred times the week of my birthday. It’s so underrated and it doesn’t get as much credit as it should. So, let’s go give it a listen, shall we?

“Tell Me Something I Don’t Know”—12-year-old me blasted this song from her iPod Nano so many times. I dreamed of becoming a professional dancer after listening to this song, and watching that movie. That is, until I realized I can’t dance and even when I was in show choir, I was in the back row (dancing in heels is hard, guys). This song, and New Classic by Drew Seeley, were my jam in middle school. Hehe.

“Magic”—throwing it back with the Disney Channel, but gotta include this song. It was the theme song for Selena’s Disney Channel show, Wizards of Waverly Place. Whenever it came on, just admit you were singing along.

“A Year Without Rain”—again with the Disney! OK, while this song isn’t all Disney, the music video still starred her Wizards co-star, Gregg Sulkin (now dating Bachelor alum Cassie Randolph’s sister, btw). The music video included clips from Wizards, which was very interesting. Who can’t resist a British hunk? (Tom Holland, still waiting on that DM response.)

“Kill Em With Kindness”—YASSSS LOVE THIS SONG. Gotta stan a song that screams being kind. “The world can be a nasty place, you know it, I know it…we don’t have to fall from grace, put down the weapons you fight with.” YAS. Sorry, I just still jam out to this song. But honestly, I jam out to every Selena Gomez song. “Your lies are bullets, your mouth’s a gun, no war and anger was ever won. Put out the fire before igniting…” K, I’ll stop now.

“Hands to Myself”—man oh man, I almost ranked this song as #1. The lyric when she says “but why would I want to?” gets me every time. Truly a hit that makes me want to get up and dance. “CAN’T KEEP MY HANDS TO MYSELF, BUT WHY WOULD I WANT TO?” K, now I’m done.

“Who Says”—I looooove this song. I listen to it almost every morning, and it gets me hype on my drive to work. This is hands-down my #1 song. It’s on my repeat playlist on Spotify. Like, this song empowers me to do my best in everything that I do. No matter what people think of me, no matter what people say, I’m meant to do what I love to do. “Who says, who says you’re not perfect? Who says you’re not worth it? … Trust me, that’s the price of beauty. Who says you’re not pretty?”

And that rounds out this round-up of Selena Gomez songs. Happy listening, my friends. I hope you like her new song and binge-listen to it all day, all week. It’s going to be hype.
