Life Update: My Career, A New Blog, and What I’ve Been Loving
If you’re new here, hello! I’m Olivia, and I am the blogger behind “The Daily Dose.” I post life chats, recaps on all things pop culture (think The Bachelor), and sometimes, share my relationship with the Lord. If you already know me, welcome back! This is my new blog, my new website, my new little corner of the Internet. I used to do these posts where I just share what’s been on my heart and what I’ve been loving, but I haven’t written one in a while. And 2019 was a whirlwind of a year, so I’m very excited to share what’s been happening.
It’s The Last Year in this Decade…
In January 2019, I got a job! I work in editorial full-time. But not gonna lie, my blog took a hit. I was laser-focused on excelling at my job, I almost forgot to work on my blog when I got home. I wasn’t in a creative blogging mindset—I wrote a few posts here and there, but the blog (yep, that’s liv) wasn’t inspiring me. So recently … I decided to scratch the blog and completely start anew!
This new blog, The Daily Dose, is already making me so happy. It allows me a creative space after work to write and to grow my personal brand. It’s a culmination of my love of pop culture, chats about life and what’s going on around me, and my relationship with the Lord. I hesitated on naming the blog just “oliviascherzer” or “oliviagrace” but that would be my entire brand, and I envision my blog to grow into a brand that’s not just me, but a brand that helps young, ambitious (yet lazy) twenty-something post-grad women. I truly love the space I created and only hope that this grows to reach more and more gals that have just graduated college, entering the workforce, and fueling their creative fire into something big.
That being said, I absolutely love my full-time job—it allows me to grow as a writer and editor. I have learned so much about the workplace, putting together a magazine, transitioning what’s in print to the digital space, and more. I am very excited to continue learning about the magazine world every single day. The beautiful thing about working in editorial is that every day is not the same, your agenda changes constantly.
What I’ve Been Loving
What have I been loving? First of all, I love my lazy days. I sit here, writing this article, in my pajamas on a Saturday morning catching up on YouTube videos and drinking my coffee. The best days, no lie.
I’ve been re-watching The Bold Type on Hulu, one of my absolute favorite shows. If you are a writer, social media guru, fashion lover, or just obsessed with New York in general, this show is for you. Honestly, I would recommend it even if you were none of those things. It’s safe to say that this show is the 21st century Sex and the City.
Trader Joe’s is still the best grocery store, Dunkin’ is still better than Starbucks, and surprise—cooking actually is becoming my new hobby. I’m no Martha Stewart (yet), but I’ve discovered finding recipes off Pinterest and other food blogs and re-creating those meals. The one thing I need to work on is summoning the energy to cook after work (so I don’t order Postmates).
What I’m Reading
I’m currently reading The Luxe, and it’s pretty good so far! Think Gossip Girl, but set in 1899. The Holland Sisters (Elizabeth and Diana) rule the Manhattan social scene (let’s just call them Serena and Blair, tbh). Add in Elizabeth’s frenemy, Penelope Hayes, swoon-worthy Henry Schoonmaker, and a spiteful maid named Lina Broud—and you have a dysfunctional, elite group of characters that ultimately transform into a thrilling page-turner. Happy reading, you’ll find me curled up in my apartment reading this beauty.
I also am reading The Kennedy Debutante, and if you’re a big history buff like me, then you’ll love it! It centers around the Kennedy family, specifically the main character Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy. Her father, Joe Kennedy Sr., is appointed the U.S. Ambassador to Britain, and the family (excluding Joe Jr. and Jack—yes, Jack as in future president JFK), move to Britain in (pre-WWII) 1938. The author, Kerri Maher, includes historical references like Britain pressuring America to join the war efforts and America being hesitant, but it also centers on Kick’s life in England pre-war, as well as her life in America at the beginning of the war. She falls in love, but it’s forbidden due to her Catholicism because she falls in love with a Marquess (who is a Protestant). LOL, I read a spoiler before I started reading, but it wasn’t really a spoiler because the end of the book is literally what happened to specific Kennedy family members. That’s what reading historical novels gets you—spoilers are literally what happened in history.
That’s it for the little life update—I hope to be doing these a lot more, because I love sitting down (on a Saturday morning) and recapping what’s been happening in my life.
