Friday Favorites 1.9.20
In the new year, I decided to start a new series on the blog: Friday Favorites. These will be what I’ve been loving, whether they include books, TV shows, podcasts, articles, movies, or social media accounts. Each post won’t include all these categories, but just short tidbits. This post was meant to go live last Friday (1/3), but it didn’t, so I’ve combined last week’s favorites with this week’s favorites. So, here goes:
BOOK:
City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert: This is my first book of 2020, and I tore through the pages. The book is set in the 1940s and focuses around the character Vivian who goes to live with her Aunt Peg, who owns a theater in Hell’s Kitchen. I started this book in 2019, but put it down for other books, but I picked it back up at the start of the year, and finished it quickly. It’s told in Vivian’s POV, set in the past, and she’s telling the story to a woman named Angela. Read on!
Game of Thrones, the series: I just finished the first book of the Game of Thrones series, and that’s actually a HUGE accomplishment for me. I started reading the second book in the series, but honestly, it’s one of those books where I’m not going to read it due to other books that are on my TBR list.
FITNESS ROUTINE:
Zumba Class: In 2019, I really got into Zumba. I loved going and just dancing it out and working all the muscles in my body—Zumba is truly a full-body workout, no matter what anyone says.
LISTENS:
Thick & Thin podcast with Katy Bellotte: I’ve been listening to Katy’s podcast, Thick & Thin, a lot recently! It covers all of the topics that twenty-something girls go through such as dating, imposter syndrome, setting goals, work, apartment and city lifestyle. If you want to listen to the latest episode, go to her Instagram @katybellotte.
I Love You So Much podcast with Kenzie Elizabeth: A surprise, I’ve started listening to Kenzie’s podcast, Ilysm. She interviews notable influencers and experts in their field. Like Gals on the Go, Kenzie discusses topics that are relevant to college and twenty-something gals today.
ON SOCIAL MEDIA:
Twitter: @brookemiccio is absolutely hilarious on Twitter. I just want to give a quick shout-out to her. She was one of the first YouTubers I watched in college, and I watched her all the way through college and through her first job. I can’t wait to see her content coming in 2020, and I especially can’t wait to see her live tweeting the Bachelor. (And her Instagram is also pretty cool.)
PURCHASES:
Candles—Trader Joe’s style: Every time I go to Trader Joe’s, I pick up a new candle. They have candles for every holiday season, and I went through my fall and Christmas candles real quick. They last for a while and will have your apartment smelling goooood for a while. (My Cedar Balsam is burning right next to me as I write this.)
Shoes // Ankle-length black booties: I have been wearing these suede black booties I got from Kohl’s on Cyber Monday, and I. Am. Obsessed.
Gals on the Go merch: I recently bought the Gals on the Go “dnt txt” sweatshirt. And yes, I am anxiously waiting by my inbox to see if it’s arrived. (It hasn’t.)
ARTICLES:
This awesome article from The Everygirl that teaches you how to have a healthy relationship with food. The only positive relationship going for me in 2020.
Selena Gomez’s album, Rare, comes out today. Catch me listening to it allll day. It’s her follow-up album from her 2016 album, Revival. And her music video to go along with the single Rare is weird and trippy and beautiful.
This is actually insanely cool—65,000 young Christians gather together to ring in the new year, the new decade at Passion 2020. They released a playlist of songs that phenomenal worship bands played at the conference called Passion 2020: Prepare the Way. Stream it now on Apple Music and/or Spotify!
