A Round-Up Of My Favorite Marvel Movies

This blog post will be slightly different than my other ones, because I’m talking about one of my favorite topics to talk about: Marvel movies! I’m not the biggest MCU nerd, but I do love a good action-packed Marvel movie and can confidently explain the MCU to someone who’s not a Marvel fan.

When I’m having a rough day, or just feeling overwhelmed, there are certain Marvel movies that I turn to just for … comfort. So, if you’re having a rough day, or life has got you down, feel free to turn to these Marvel movies that act as my comfort movies. Hope you enjoy!

01. The Avengers

The OG Avengers assemble in this action-packed 2012 Marvel movie. Set in New York (as many Marvel movies were set in New York in 2012—IYKYK), I love this movie with my whole heart. I watched this when I wasn’t even the biggest Marvel fan and couldn’t answer the question of what was a Marvel superhero? You don’t even need to know what’s going on in the MCU to watch this movie, and that’s what makes it so great. It’s just these superheroes coming together for the first time—and I love seeing the riffs and the characters bickering until they reach common ground. Before The Avengers, I believe the only movies are: Iron Man, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, and Thor.

02. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Sadly, this movie is not available to watch for free, but since I recently purchased a DVD player for my Macbook Pro, I may need to invest in the DVD where I can probably watch deleted scenes. This movie was THE Marvel movie that catapulted my love of Marvel movies, and my obsession with the entire MCU, so there’s no doubt that this is a comfort movie. I love Tom Holland, but not only him, but Zendaya and the guy who plays Ned are phenomenal too. (Secretly I’m pining over Ned while the rest of the world pines over Tom Holland.)

03. Captain America: Civil War

This is like pre-Avengers: Infinity War where different MCU superheroes come together to join the Avengers … fighting against each other? Captain America and Iron Man square off in a battle; but before, they recruit new, different superheroes to join their sides. This is where we’re introduced to the incomparable Tom Holland aka Peter Parker aka Spider-Man, and his mentor-mentee relationship with Tony Stark aka Iron Man, but we are also introduced to Chadwick Boseman who played the Black Panther. I think this is the movie that Ant-Man comes in, although his movie Ant-Man came out before this movie. Still, we got to see Paul Rudd fighting it up with Captain America. And that leads me to…

04. Ant-Man

I love Paul Rudd—but if I’m being honest, there was a time where I didn’t like Paul Rudd. But I think his presence in the MCU made me develop a real appreciation for him. He’s funny, yet serious when he needs to be, goofy, and caring—all great traits for a Marvel superhero. This movie is definitely a comfort movie for me.

05. Black Panther

RIP Chadwick Boseman. I loved this movie so much—and that’s not just because Michael B. Jordan is in it. (I mean, have you seen Winston Duke??) This is a Marvel movie that I would recommend to ANYONE because it’s one of those movies in the MCU that you don’t need a prior knowledge of Marvel to understand what’s going on. It really just focuses on Wakanda and the issues pertaining to Wakanda and the world around them. Yes, it does follow the events post-Captain America: Civil War, but you can look up a brief summary of that before watching Black Panther. And I think watching this movie (along with the rest of them) would be most helpful to watch before watching Avengers: Infinity War.

06. Iron Man

The superhero movie where it all began. I watched this in 2008 (or somewhere around that time) and I fell in love with Iron Man. Years before I became a MCU fan, I was watching this movie every time it came on the FX channel. I love Robert Downy Jr. so much—a little too much, but that’s besides the point, and I will watch this movie every time it comes on.

07. Avengers: Infinity War

I wasn’t going to include this movie, but I included Endgame and thought to myself, yeah, I would watch Infinity War when I need a pick-me-up movie. I love the Avengers coming together again (just like the OG Avengers in 2012) to fight a common enemy. Although the ending is very sad, I still think the movie (and the ending) brings hope to MCU fans.

08. Avengers: Endgame (that one scene)

This may sound controversial, but while I love, love, LOVE Avengers: Endgame, and it would probably make my top five Marvel movies, I do not choose to watch that movie as a pick-me-up movie. However, that one final battle scene, where ALL the superheroes come through the portals, beginning with Sam (The Falcon) saying “on your left” in Cap’s ear, surprising Cap, I will never get over that. (Dang, do I need to watch Captain America: Winter Soldier again?) Sometimes, I’ll watch that end scene on YouTube just for fun.

This blog post was a journey into the MCU movies that I haven’t watched in a while. Maybe I’ll log off and go watch some of these movies, or you know, just watch that one scene in Endgame.
