7 Side Hustles That Can Make You Some Extra Money

Side hustles. Anyone can have them, they’re just really hard to maintain after work. Picture this: you come home, exhausted from a long day of work, and all you want to do is veg on the couch watching New Girl reruns. But if you want to save for that trip to Europe, or your own apartment, or just that new coat you’re dying to buy, a side hustle may be for you. But what side hustle? Check these out:

  1. A blog.

Of course I have to include this. If your passion is to write, I highly, highly recommend that you start a blog. Don’t start a blog just because you want to be an influencer—there are so many other reasons to start blogging. You can share recipe posts on Pinterest, culture (read: Bachelor) posts with your friends and family, #ootds on Instagram if you’re into fashion, or get into freelance writing. Setting up a blog can help you become a freelance writer because it serves as a portfolio.

2. Sell old or unused items from your closet on Poshmark or eBay.

Tired of your cluttered closet? Do a closet clean out. Separate your clothes into “keep” and “giveaway.” Those you want to give away, see if you can sell some of them! Poshmark and eBay are great sites that guide you through the simple selling process. And you can pick up free package boxes from the post office!

3. Transcribe for different websites or take surveys online.

I’ve heard of people doing this! It might be hard work, but you can transcribe interviews, videos, and others—and get paid instantly. You can also take surveys online and be eligible for gift cards, which is also great, let’s be honest.

4. Be an extra in movies.

Okay, this one’s pretty cool. You can sign up and look for movies and TV shows that are casting extras. Lots of shows and movies are looking for extras in all sorts of cities. Do a quick Google search of movies and TV shows looking for extras in your city, I promise it’s worth it.

5. Walk dogs via Rover.

Do you LOVE dogs? Like, so much that you want one yourself but don’t want to pay the apartment dog fee? Try walking dogs on Rover! You can pet-sit people’s furry friends while they’re at work, on a weekend trip, or on a week-long vacation.

6. Film tutorials on YouTube, whether beauty, fashion, or lifestyle.

If you’re comfortable in front of a camera, then try filming a YouTube tutorial! People love tutorials. You can look up practically anything on YouTube. How to curl your hair with a flat iron? How to put on a smoky eye?

7. Get a part-time, weekend job.

If you want to get out of the house, get a part-time job. If none of these opportunities seem like the right fit for you, look for part-time jobs in your area. And make it fun! If you love reading, work at your local bookstore. If you belong to a gym, work the front desk at your gym or consider being an instructor/personal trainer. It’s up to you on how you spend your free time.
