6 Books For The Gal Who Wants To Dive Deeper Into Her Faith

As you may know, I’m a huge reader. Buying my books is my love language. Actually finishing them? That’s another story. But something I’ve gotten into lately in my twenties is nonfiction books. There’s just something about nonfiction books that’s interesting…they’re books that I can put down and pick back up whenever I feel like it. There’s no pressure to finish in one sitting (although I’ve been known to do that once in a while!). These are six books that really resonated with me and encouraged me on my walk with Christ. An important disclaimer that I must add: these books are in no way replacing God’s Word. They only serve to encourage and inspire one’s relationship with God. That being said, please enjoy these books! I encourage you to journal in the margins and highlight any notable quotes.

Own Your Everyday by Jordan Lee Dooley

Written by an entrepreneur, blogger, and podcast host, what can’t Jordan Lee Dooley do?! Jordan started a small Etsy business in college, out of her sorority house, and gradually built her business into Soulscripts. From hand-lettering in the basement of her sorority house to running a small team selling sweatshirts and mugs and shirts and stickers to starting a podcast that will end up with 1 million downloads, Jordan is a multi-passionate woman just wanting to live out God’s purpose for her. I read this book from cover to cover and I highly, highly recommend it.

You Are The Girl For The Job by Jess Connolly

Another great author! This book is for the gal who runs a side hustle on the side of a full-time job or school. Jess Connolly lead a ministry with her husband in Charleston, South Carolina. She bases all of her knowledge and gifts on His Word.

Garden City by John Mark Comer

If you ever read “To Hell with the Hustle” by Jefferson Bethke, then you’ll love John Mark Comer. He has a new book out, The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, but this book is slightly similar. It’s about resting in the midst of your busy life. I picked it up because it looked “academic” but really, it’s not! Honestly, I haven’t read it yet but it’s on my list for sure. It’s the book that you read if you want to learn more about your faith.

Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver

Funny story about how I picked up this book. I read this article where they were listing books for each enneagram number should read. And…this one was for type 2s. (Any type 2s??) If you remember the story of Mary and Martha in the Bible, you remember that Jesus was coming through their town and stopped in their house for dinner and to just “chill.” I mean, if Jesus was visiting your house, what would you do? You would probably spend three weeks deep cleaning your apartment and trying to get rid of that unknown smell coming from your trash can. That’s exactly what Martha did—but not Mary, which upset Martha. Here Martha was, stressing herself out by cooking and cleaning, and there’s Mary who’s sitting at the hands and feet of Jesus, basking in His every word. It’s what Martha wanted to do, but was “too busy.” When she got angry, Jesus took Martha by the hands and told her to stop—that you’re focusing on the wrong things and not focusing on your Creator. This book was a real eye-opener—it’s one of those books where I can pick up and put down every couple of months. It serves as a devotional.

Live Fearless by Sadie Robertson

THIS BOOK. I’ve always admired Sadie—author, speaker, dancer extraordinaire. If you’re a college-aged woman (or man!) then you need to read this book. Sadie has a new book coming out this month, called “Live” and I am so ready to read it!

Am I Enough? by Grace Valentine

I don’t want to say I saved the best for last, because how can I compare all these beautiful and amazing books? This is a book that I picked back up and it’s really encouraged me to write more about my faith. I swear, Grace and I have similar experiences—is that weird to say?? As a Curriculum and Content Director at a church in Orlando, Florida, Grace is a recent college graduate helping college women in every issue they might be facing. She talks about boys, hookups, that one mistake you made in college that you can’t forget, drinking culture, friendships, the church, and most importantly, God. Her words that she writes are so powerful and yet so normal. I can’t recommend this book enough—I’m actually going to stop writing this and continue reading it!
