A Round-Up Of Christian Books + Devotionals To Dive Deeper In Your Faith

My faith is a big part of who I am. I try to pick up a few Christian books every couple of months, and I’ve been on the hunt for a good devotional lately. Here are some books and devotionals that I recommend if you are looking to dive deeper in your faith.

I have not read all of these, so please, if you have read any of these, drop a comment below! Would love to know what you thought.

Live on Purpose: 100 Devotions for Letting Go of Fear and Following God by Sadie Robertson

Sadie Robertson is one of my favorite Christian authors, and I’m SO glad that she released her latest devotional, Live on Purpose, because I’ve been needing a devotional! If you’ve read anything by her, this devotional takes similar themes from her past books and helps you apply those truths through Scripture, prayer, and her passionate message to live well. Some of these devotions give you practical tools for overcoming fear and living with confidence, setting aside fear, anxiety, and comparison, and dreaming big and living like it’s on purpose. 100 percent go pick this up!

Live in Grace, Walk in Love by Bob Goff

Like Sadie Robertson, Bob Goff is another author that every Christian must read. His positive energy and infectious smile radiates happiness and positivity. This devotional is for 365 days, and the devotions are quick and easy to read. I’ve read through this amazing devotional and so I highly recommend it if you’re looking for an impactful devotional that you can remember throughout your day.

New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp

This is widely popular amongst Christians—like, I’ve seen almost every Christian influencer post about this. I haven’t read it myself, but this devotional helps you to take a pause and have this quiet time with God in the mornings. Ever felt rushed in the morning, running around trying to get ready for school or work? This devotional can help you to slow down and really take in Scripture and focus on encountering God in his own time.

The Bible Study: A One Year Study

Made by “The Brand Sunday,” The Bible Study is a bestselling, easy-to-follow Bible study for newbie Christians or Christians who want to read the Bible from start to finish. This Bible study not only includes beautiful imagery that makes reading the Bible exciting, but provides short recaps of each book of the Bible. (Wait, what is the purpose of Deuteronomy again?) This is definitely going on my list for the fall, and with the price of $38, it’s a Bible study that must be on your list, too.

A Rhythm of Prayer, Edited by Sarah Bessey

Sarah Bessey is a highly recommended Christian author. As we are nearing the end of this pandemic, this collection of prayers and devotions are for anyone who feels weary, angry, anxious, and hopeful. It brings to mind the verse in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Read these essays, edited by Sarah Bessey and written by several other notable Christian authors and influencers, if you’re feeling anxious or weary.

The Sacred Search by Gary Thomas

Single people, raise your hand. 🙋🏻‍♀️ This is for the singles; Gary Thomas helps single people of all ages make wise marital choices in The Sacred Search

Outdated by Jonathan Pokluda

Jonathan Pokluda is one of the leading pastors for young adults and this generation, to be honest. With his Instagram (on IGTV) chats about dating, relationships, singleness, and everything else young adult Christians are struggling with, it’s no surprise that he would release yet another book … this time, on dating! This has been on my list for a while. He writes about “outdated” dating traditions, online dating, and how single young adults can date well and with intention.

Dream Big by Bob Goff

Oh look, another Bob Goff novel! His third novel overall, Bob Goff does not disappoint with Dream Big. He helps the reader rediscover their dreams and turn them into reality. Honestly, I think this is perfect for young adults entering and navigating their twenties.

Uninvited by Lysa TerKeurst

Lysa TerKeurst is another well-known Christian author. But Uninvited is sure to be on your list. In sharing her own experience of rejection, she explains the roots of rejection, how rejection can poison our relationships, including our relationship with God. This book largely talks about feeling less than, left out, and lonely.

Good or God?: Why Good Without God Isn’t Enough by John Bevere

This came highly recommended by a Christian influencer I follow (@tiffhogle) and John Bevere is yet another well-known, scholarly Christian author. His book, Good or God? challenges why we need God in our lives so desperately as Christians. This will change how you view your relationship with God, and I’m excited to pick it back up again.

All Along You Were Blooming by Morgan Harper Nichols

You’ve probably seen a graphic designed by the amazing Morgan Harper Nichols shared to Instagram stories. Did you know that she’s authored a book, too? This is for anyone and everyone—but more specifically, for those who feel weary or burdened, feel purposeless, lonely, or in a hard place. Morgan Harper Nichols is a wonderful artist but also an amazing poet and wordsmith. Even if you don’t read it one sitting, you can pick it up whenever and/or use it as a great coffee table book!

You Are the Girl For the Job by Jess Connolly

Have you ever questioned your passion? Jess Connolly gets it. Maybe you know your passion, but you’re letting fear, anxiety, and self-doubt creep in and stop you from fulfilling your passion. By the time I finished reading this, I had highlighted almost every page in every chapter, and made notes in the margins. Jess Connolly dares you to live out your God-given purpose by finding your people, using what you’ve got, facing your fears, naming your vision, and making your move. She helps you to realize your God-give gifts and live those out every day, no matter what you are called to. (And a bonus: check out her latest book, Breaking Free From Body Shame. You won’t want to miss this!)

Get Out of Your Head by Jennie Allen

Hold up, hold up! Even if you’re not a Christian, or you are exploring Christianity, get your hands on this book. Jennie Allen spills all the secrets into stopping the spiral of toxic thoughts. Thoughts like “I’ll never be good enough” and “Other people have better lives than I do.” She helps us take our thoughts captive, but she gives practical tips and ways to do so instead of just glossing over it. She gets real and includes both Scripture and science-backed research to back her up.

Jesus Feminist by Sarah Bessey

I must admit, I have not read this book. However, I do think it’s important that as a Christian woman to understand the woman’s place in the church and how the Bible explains that. Sarah Bessey is a gifted, wonderful Christian writer, and this bestselling book talks about feminism and the Church.

Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. Henry Townsend

A book that’s helped 4 million people, Boundaries teaches Christians on how to say no and also love others. Saying “no” can be hard enough, but these authors (and doctors!) help you take back control of your life.

The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer

Hustle culture is bad. We can all fall into the trap of hustle culture (or “busy culture”), so when pastor and author John Mark Comer was struggling with this, he traded hustle in for a slower, simpler way of life. He helps readers eliminate the need to hurry and hustle all the time, and instead remain emotionally healthy. This is DEFINITELY on my list.

Start Where You Are by Rashawn Copeland

Rashawn Copeland has an incredible testimony, and I had the privilege of interviewing him. His book, Start Where You Are, is his own story of how God met him in his mess, and he helps readers how to start their walk with God and how God can meet them in their mess, just like how God met him in his mess. This book is so beautifully written and reminds us in even the darkest of moments, God is there, reaching His hand to you.

Everybody Always by Bob Goff

Oh look, it wouldn’t be the end of this list without adding another Bob Goff novel. I have to admit, he’s one of my favorite Christian authors. His second book, Everybody Always, was a book that I needed to read. This is a book where Bob helps readers live without fear, care, or worry, and helps us to love people even when it’s difficult. Just like his first book, Love Does, he shows that love could be the most powerful tool that we have.

Anxious for Nothing by Max Lucado

I think in the past two years, everyone has struggled with anxiety in some sort or another. As Christians, it can be hard to be vulnerable and open up about mental health. Max Lucado, a renowned Christian author, talks about anxiety and how we can heal from it. He dives into the most used and highlighted Bible verse when talking about anxiety—Philippians 4:6-7. One of his most recent books (2019), he is a gifted Christian writer and this is an easy recommendation.

I realize that the majority of these are books, but a lot of these authors have written devotionals or turned their books into Bible studies/devotionals on topical subjects. Drop a comment below if you’d like a post rounding up devotionals to start, I’d love to gather some.
