My Favorite TV Shows That Aren't Set In NYC

I watch TV … a lot. Like, a lot.

But I’ve noticed something with some of my favorite TV shows … most of them are set in NYC. While I love New York City, I don’t live there and honestly? I don’t find it relatable. (I mean, can Monica and Rachel afford that beautiful apartment?)

I love Friends, Sex and the City, The Mindy Project, and How I Met Your Mother (amongst others). But what about the shows not set in NYC? Honestly, I love those shows equally as much as the shows mentioned above—and even for some, better.

Here are my favorite shows that aren’t set in NYC. These shows are set in the modern day—so no, Bridgerton is not included in this list.

Gilmore Girls

My FAVORITE show … I think right now, it’s my favorite show of all time. I love this small town dramedy. I think it doesn’t need an explanation, but this is a great watch and a great re-watch.

Hart of Dixie

I love this show set in the South … it has Rachel Bilson AND Cress Williams? Amazing. And let’s not forget Wade’s abs. This is such a great re-watch that I might start re-watching soon.

Jane the Virgin

Honestly, let’s just give a round of applause to the iconic Gina Rodriguez. And Raphael? I just have to say … TEAM RAPHAEL. Michael was just too annoying.

New Girl

I call this show the modern-day Friends, and honestly, it checks out. All of the characters are highly relatable—besides the fact that they live in a loft in Los Angeles that fits five people.

Grey’s Anatomy

This Shonda Rhimes hospital drama is just iconic. Like, it will forever be a national treasure. Who knows? It may never end, but at least we can catch up on the old episodes with McDreamy and McSteamy.

Schitt’s Creek

I haven’t finished this show, but it’s still a show that I found hilarious. David Rose is just incredible and talented.

Sweet Magnolias

I binge-watched season two in one day, and honestly, I’m not mad about it. I love this show set in a small town in the South. I’ve read three books in the Sweet Magnolias series, by Sherryl Woods, and they are incredible. Who can’t resist Cal?

Outer Banks

Outer Banks … paradise on earth. I started this show thinking it was another teen show, but a few episodes into season one, and I was absolutely hooked. It’s like Riverdale meets Treasure Island. and it has the guitarist from the show Nashville in it. Highly recommend watching if you haven’t already.

Abbott Elementary

I love this show so much and I laugh out loud every single episode. Quinta Brunson is a comedy genius and honestly, I’m so excited for more episodes.
