Life Update: Friday Favorites, Weekend Reading, and Life Hacks

I’m putting a little spin on Friday Favorites. With coronavirus and self-isolation and quarantine, a lot of people’s lives are being disrupted—and not in a good way. Just one scroll through Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter and you are bombarded with posts about staying home and if you take one step out of your door, you’re ostracized for contributing to the spread. But that’s not what my blog and my social media channels are about. I’m not going to yell at anyone; yes, you need to stay inside but go grab some extra K cups if you need some or go take a run. (Or order some on Amazon.) Let’s spread love, not coronavirus, okay? LOVE!

What am I loving?

Bad on Paper podcast episode this week with Alisha Ramos! She talks about starting her brand/newsletter @girlsnightin, female-founded businesses, and the courage to start her own business. She also delves into the hustle culture, which I respect. I definitely, definitely recommend. Especially with one of the hosts, Becca Freeman, announcing her own side podcast, RomCom podcast! Go give that a follow!

Brooke Miccio vlogs: No shocker here, but I’ve been binging YouTuber Brooke Miccio’s channel. I love her relationship with her mom, her post-grad vlogs, and seeing what she recommends. Highly, highly recommend.

Weekend Reading:

This awesome article from The Everygirl on starting hobbies!

Standing in line at Trader Joe’s has this one blogger thinking about the coronavirus pandemic.

Instead of an article, this is an entire resource index on coronavirus from the CDC filled with information on how to protect yourself, what to do if you’re sick, how you can practice social distancing, and more. Highly, highly recommend that you read.

LIFE HACKS:

During this difficult time, it’s easy to just turn to your phone and binge-watch Netflix at the same time. But don’t let yourself sink to that level! Try these activities instead: start that blog, read some light-hearted books, and take up a hobby. Bake. Learn how to cook. Write a novel on Wattpad. Play The Sims. Catch up on your favorite YouTuber’s videos. Support local businesses (and freelancers!). Take a course on Skillshare. FaceTime an old friend. Cross-stich, knit, crochet, needlepoint…any type of sewing. Eat snacks.

There are so many things that you can be doing right now from the comfort of your own home. I think, and this is just the coffee kicking in this morning, but I think this is what I was born for. Social isolation?? I’m not taking this pandemic lightly, I promise you. Lately, I’ve just been trying to train myself to see the light in any situation. Even if this does go until June, July, or August, just try to see the positive in it.
