How Obe Fitness Changed My Relationship with Exercise + Healthy Eating

Hey, friends.

I am not the exercise or healthy eating aficionado. I am not a health and fitness blogger or expert, nor do I count my calories or even know how to count macros. And when I do exercise, it’s mostly Zumba or a quick dance workout. Ever since I can remember, I have felt intimidated by the gym and the scary equipment. Heck, even my middle school gym teacher told me—to my face—that I have zero upper body strength. (I was a 12-year-old girl!!) Because of that (and a lot of other related things), I grew up with insecurities about my body and taking care of my body. I didn’t feel like I knew enough about fitness to get into strength training, and I couldn’t run on the treadmill like the other girls and guys. On top of that, I never had the best relationship with food. I always ended up over-eating and hating myself, constantly looking in the mirror and feeling bloated or fat, comparing myself to regular-sized influencers, and trying every diet known to society and ending up disheartened.

It took me 24 years (and then some) to finally realize that finding the right exercise and implementing healthy eating habits is a process. It took me 24 years to realize that I can have “bad days” because ahem, those are just normal days. It took me 24 years to be comfortable in my body and honor what my body needs—both with food and exercise and the lack of exercise.

And you know what? I still have those days where I don’t love my body. But hey, that’s a part of body acceptance and body love, and it’s all a process. Exercise programs like Obe Fitness who make exercising fun makes the healing process a lot better and well, fun.

So, where does Obe Fitness fit into all of this?

I joined Obe Fitness in early 2021. With an Obe Fitness membership, you have online access to 22 live classes daily and countless on-demand videos. You can stream these anywhere on the Obé Fitness app—on your phone, iPad, laptop, TV—all from the comfort of your living room (or bedroom, backyard, outdoor patio, wherever!). Some of the fitness classes include sculpt, dance, power, vinyasa yoga, hiit, barre, yoga sculpt, Pilates, cardio boxing, dance hiit (my personal favorite, with Walter K!), meditation, and bounce. There are even specific classes for moms-to-be and new moms in their prenatal + postnatal section of the app. Some of my personal favorites are dance hiit, yoga sculpt, and dance cardio and I’m beginning to increase my core strength and trying sculpt. It’s a process!

One thing I love about Obé Fitness is that you can schedule the live workouts and on-demand classes and it can automatically sync to your calendar (iCal or Google Calendar). I usually sit down on Sundays with my paper planner as well as my iCal and write in what classes I take.

The classes range from 28 minutes to 50 minutes, with most classes being 28 minutes. Whether you come home exhausted from work and just want to relax on the couch or want to squeeze in a quick workout on your lunch break, Obé Fitness has classes for you. Usually, I’m exhausted after work and just want to binge Netflix until it’s time to cook dinner. But Obé Fitness (along with my calendar notifications) pushes me to get up and move my body, even if it is only for 28 minutes.

The instructors are also really fun and motivating! In the live classes, they like to hype you and the rest of the class up. They call out your name and when they do, that usually pushes you to go the extra mile. Some of my favorite instructors? Obviously Walter K with dance hiit usually gets me in a puddle of sweat at the end of the 28 minutes, but I also enjoy yoga sculpt with Eva or Alex, dance cardio and sculpt with Sam G., and dance hiit with Ana C.

You can also work through a structured program! These include daily classes in the program that range in difficulty as the program progresses. Some programs are training, including the Yoga Deep Dive, Endorphins, or Runner’s Hub. Programs include the best trainers in the business, so you’re in good hands!

Why Should I Try Obe Fitness?

My Obé Fitness membership has only been in effect for a few months, and I still have a lot of classes to explore, but if you’re trying to decide whether it’s for you or not, you can always try the 7-day free trial—that way, you can try a week’s worth of classes in your living room!

But I promise you, it is worth it—I love my membership. Yes, it’s an expense, but it’s an expense that makes me genuinely happy to exercise. I don’t have to motivate myself to drag myself to the gym every day. I can enjoy live classes from the comfort of my own living room. Obé Fitness has helped me finally accept my body for what it is; the classes help me to realize that exercise isn’t just a way to lose weight, but it’s a step in the process of becoming truly happy and healthy. Obe Fitness has also inspired me to eat healthier and nourish my body in a way that feels good. I don’t have to eat solely lettuce and salads 24/7 (a mindset I unfortunately had), but instead, I can incorporate healthy snacks and meals like fruit and veggies into my routine, but also still grabbing my favorite Goldfish snack.

I am able to finally eat intuitively and recognize what my body needs instead of listening to society telling me what my body needs.

It also has pushed me to want to exercise, instead of feeling like I have to. I not only want to get up and exercise for 28 minutes, but I’m excited to. It’s taken a while for me to reach that level of dedication and fitness mindset.

The monthly membership plan is the best, in my opinion, because it’s priced at $27 a month. That’s significantly cheaper than most gym memberships, at least in my experience. You can find the subscription plans here. Overall, Obé Fitness is worth checking out. And still not convinced? I’m offering you a 2-week guest pass so that you can enjoy 2 weeks of free live and on-demand classes!

(Disclaimer: for every friend who ~officially~ joins the obé fam using the link above, I will score $10 to The obé Shop after their free trial ends!)
