Podcasts I’ve Been Loving

I recently invested in the long-awaited trend, AirPods. And it is one of the best purchases I made in my 20s yet! I don't leave the house without them—they're either always in my purse or ears. And what's playing in my ears? Not my new fall playlist or Taylor Swift's new album on repeat...but something else. Any guesses? Podcasts.

I was the gal who never listened to podcasts. Everyone else was jumping on the trend, and had their favorites. You had the crime junkies, comedians, the lifestyle influencers, and the news junkies. I, frankly, did not care to be placed in any of these "groups." I was perfectly content on listening to country music and pop music. But then I got these magical AirPods, and I discovered this wonderful new world.

Now granted, I don't fit into one single genre. Just like my music taste, I jump from crime junkies to influencers to news. But this list of podcasts is for any gal who's just starting out on podcasts like I am. Happy listening!

1. Gals on The Go by Danielle Carolan and Brooke Miccio

This podcast is definitely for the gal on the go! What I love about this podcast is that Danielle is in college and Brooke is in post-grad. So essentially, this podcast is for college girls and girls in the post-grad stage. This podcast is VERY easy to listen to while you're ~on the go~.

2. Bad on Paper Podcast by Grace Atwood and Becca Freeman

Guys. Omg. This podcast. I just found this podcast, listened to one episode, and love it already. Grace Atwood and Becca Freeman discuss a young adult book that “they promise you won’t be able to put down.” The first episode I listened to, featuring Katharine McGee (yes, the spelling is correct!), talked about her new book, “American Royals.” I went to Target right after work and bought my own copy. If you’re looking for your own book club, or just wanting to fill your TBR list, then this is for you. Definitely can’t wait to listen to more!

3. Crime Junkies by Ashley Flowers

Let me interrupt whatever you're doing right now to introduce you to crime podcasts. Me, who's afraid of her own shadow, binged six podcast episodes in one day at work. The Crime Junkies episode about Maura Murray definitely gave me the chills as I was walking from my car to my apartment. #paranoid

4. Skimm This

Whoa, whoa, whoa...this podcast is for the news junkie who only loves to read the headlines (aka me). The Skimm news podcasts are only 12 minutes and totally worth it for the gal who doesn’t want hour long podcasts and wants something easy and skimmable—yes, pun intended. The Skimm makes it easier to understand the world news, from a millennial perspective.

5. Thick & Thin by Katy Bellotte

I just started listening to Katy's podcast, and oh my God—it definitely is one of the best. Katy has a refreshing point of view that will make you stop and think about the hustle culture, calling yourself fat, influencers, and more. Those are just some of the topics she's covered already, or the episodes I've listened to so far, and I'm already hooked. This is a must-listen if you’re looking for a conversation about the more real topics that need to be addressed.

6. She Podcast by Jordan Lee Dooley

Fun fact: Jordan's podcast first released on my birthday. So, I'm pretty special, right? But this podcast is for the gal who feels overwhelmed, lost, or just wondering what in the heck they should be doing. This podcast is for the gal who's working a 9-5 AND working a side hustle, for the gal who's in college and no idea what she's doing, and for the gal who seems to be doing it all at once, and in over her head. This podcast instructs listeners to slow down, listen, and reflect. Jordan uses her "everyday" to teach and coach millennials and college-aged women to live their "everyday" lives, all doing it with a whole lotta grace and faith.

7. Often Ambitious by Erika Sheffer and Lindsey Plevyak

I just listened to this podcast one day on my way to work and it's already a game-changer. I'm into the motivating, encouraging podcasts but this one—this one especially with this latest episode—knocked me right off my feet. No spoilers from me, I'll let you listen for yourself.

8. The Morning Toast by @girlwithnojob and @jackieoproblems

Just listened to my first podcast episode today and I just HAD to include this. The Morning Toast podcast hosts give you five headlines from that day or week (like The Skimm), and they discuss it from a millennial's perspective—usually very short and sweet, and with a little bit of sass. And, they deliver all of the headlines before you've had a bite of, you've guessed it, your morning toast.

9. The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast by Lauryn Evans Bosstick and Michael Bosstick

LOVE this podcast. It's real, honest, and FUNNY. I just listened to a podcast episode today by her and her husband (who just announced they're 5 months pregnant btw) interviewing a producer from The Hills and the co-founder of HelloGiggles. Iconic.
