Cloudy Days + Cozy Sweaters

It’s a cloudy day here. Ya know, one of those days where it’s not raining…just cloudy. Sometimes, I live for these days—they’re so relaxing and cozy. But on a day like today, I feel myself growing more tired every day.

As I’m writing this, I just made my post-work coffee (yes, coffee at night) and listening to worship music. “Oceans” blares softly from the speaker and my to-do list looks a little less heavier than it did this morning. My green sweater hangs off my shoulders, because my A/C wants to blow directly on me (to be fair, the A/C is sitting right next to me).

Even though I just said that cloudy days can make me want to take a loooong nap, one of my intentions is to look on the bright side (on a cloudy day). And pun aside, there are days where the sun might not shine. Things might look bleak, dreary, or downright gloomy. And those days will definitely want to make you hide in your pjs and binge-watch Gilmore Girls for the fiftieth time (guilty).

But it’s true—one of the things I’ve learned in the midst of these cloudy days we’ve had recently is that you must always look on the bright side of things. I know, I know that’s some cheesy line you hear from your Grandma. I’m not saying that as a cop-out, or just writing those words to simply take up space. In your toughest, darkest moments, it’s essential to remember that there is a light in the corner of the darkness you’re sitting in. Reach with all of the energy you have for that light—I promise you, it is oh so worth it.

Did I expect this blog post to go that way? No.

But that’s the thing about me looking on the bright side of things. I know I’m called to be a writer. I’ve wanted to write ever since I can remember; I remember telling my parents, brothers, and cousins at Olive Garden one Sunday that I wanted to be a sports reporter. Obviously, that didn’t pan out but I’m still writing! (Just not about sports lol.) I firmly believe that God has already put a dream inside of our hearts, and that He’s waiting for the perfect time to unveil what He has in store for us. That perfect time? When we start trusting Him and nothing else—and for real. Often times, just saying that you’ll trust God and then end up relying on something else is not fully trusting God. He does fulfill promises and answer prayers—it’s just all on His timing, not ours.

So, as you’re staring out the window onto a cloudy day while clutching your fourth cup of coffee and wearing your old ratty sweater, just look for the one bright spot. Put your trust in God, and you’ll start to see a cloudy day just get a lil bit brighter.
