5 Devotional Resources For Those Looking For a New Bible Study

I haven’t spent time reading the Bible in a few weeks.

No solution — just there it is. I haven’t spend time with God, intentional time, in a few weeks.

But this morning, I opened my Bible and my journal and started to pray. I opened an old Bible study that I had started (a Bible in One Year by Nicky Gumbei) and began reading.

And it’s like I never took a break.

Honestly, I think we all get into these slumps. It’s OK to get in this type of slump — but it’s what you do about it that sets you apart as a Christian. Even in those few weeks where I didn’t spend time with God, I knew He was always there.

Friends, I want to encourage you that if you’re in this slump that I found myself in, there is hope. You don’t have to be this perfect Christian every single day (spoiler alert, no one is perfect). God doesn’t desire good works, although He actively encourages you to do good works. He desires you and your love. He desires you and your worship. He doesn’t need it; we aren’t worthy of Him, yet He rejoices when another child of His opens His Word.

Here are five devotional resources to start a new Bible study. These are resources that can lead you to an individual Bible study. I’ve used most of these for either devotionals or extra Bible study resources to help me understand Scripture.

She Reads Truth

I love these Bible studies and for only $2.99 a month, you can sign up for the membership and receive unlimited Bible studies for free. (You can also purchase individual Bible studies for a small price without the membership.) She Reads Truth offers wisdom, biblical encouragement, and Bible studies/devotionals for women everywhere on different topics and books in the Bible. Some of my personal favorites are Judges, Ephesians, and the Gospels.

YouVersion

I’ve said it before on the blog, but this Bible app is free, y’all. The YouVersion Bible app is completely free and has thousands of Bible studies — even some by your favorite Christian authors! John Piper, Priscilla Shirer, Jennie Allen … just do a search, and there probably is one. That’s how I found my current Bible study, The Bible in One Year with Nicky Gumbei. I bought the physical book/Bible study, but there’s a free version on the YouVersion Bible app. There are also Bible studies on certain topics, like facing your fears, anxiety, worry, dating, marriage, and many more.

The Bible Project

These video messages are some of the best resources to understand the Bible and Scripture passages — even those hard-to-understand passages — because they are in video format. But did you know that they also have Bible studies? You can either do these Bible studies with a Bible study group or by yourself through the Bible Project app. These Bible studies are either on books of the Bible or different faith topics, like one on The Holy Spirit.

The Bible Recap

This is a one-year guide to studying the Bible in one year. In addition to the book, they also have a short podcast (~8 minutes), hosted by Tara Leigh Cobble, that helps you understand the Bible — even those difficult Bible passages. There’s also a coordinating journal.

The Daily Grace Co.

A great Bible study resource that you should not skip! The Daily Grace Co. sells beautiful Bibles and Bible studies that are full of wisdom and biblical insight. I love this resource; I just went through the gospel of John and it was so encouraging!
