What I Read in April & Book Wishlist

This post is looong awaited, friends.

Since I started a #bookstagram in early 2020, I’ve wanted to do one of these posts! I absolutely love reading these, it helps me get ideas for what I want to read next (growing TBR list, tbh). But unfortunately, before this month, I was reading very little, like two books if it was a good month. But ever since quarantine and self-isolation started, and we couldn’t leave our houses, I’ve made so much more time for reading and placing less importance on falling asleep to TV. So, without further ado, the books I read in April. (And the books I want to read in May.)

Disclaimer: The links to the books take you to Bookshop.org, where you can buy these books and support local indie bookstores during the covid-19 pandemic! I do not receive any commissions from you clicking on the link.

“Everybody Always” by Bob Goff // I cried, laughed, sobbed, and practically gripped at the pages of “Everybody Always.” Bob Goff speaks so much truth and radiates positivity here. Each chapter is a personal narrative of him meeting ordinary people and having them make a BIG difference in not only his life, but in others’ as well. His selfless love and actions imitate the actions of Jesus. The big sequel to his bestselling book, “Love Does,” I was especially excited for this to come in the mail. I didn’t treat this as something to read in one sitting—no, I treated each chapter as a devotional. In fact, this led to me buying his “Live in Grace, Walk in Love 365-day Journey” devotional. If you haven’t heard of Mr. Goff, highly, highly recommend go checking him out. 5/5

“Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” by J.K. Rowling (Book Three) // BIG Harry Potter fan over here. I have to be honest, I had only read the first three books before this year. I wasn’t really a Harry Potter fan growing up. I know, don’t @ me. I realize my mistakes because Y’ALL, I love these books now. J.K. Rowling creates a whole new world in the Harry Potter series. In “Prisoner of Azkaban,” I love the way she establishes characters and makes up things like “Quidditch” and “Animagus”—it inspires me in my own writing. Personally, Sirius Black is my favorite character in the entire HP series. I like the werewolves, and also how the author is still introducing us to new wizardry classes. Pick up this series whether or not you’ve read it. You won’t be disappointed!! #QuarantineReads 5/5

“Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” by J.K. Rowling (Book Four) // Since I read the third book, I had to pick this one up. Truthfully, since I said I only read the first three books, I started reading “Goblet of Fire” so long ago but frankly…got bored. But because of #QuarantineReads, I pushed through. For me, it was slower in the first and second chapters! Like, really slow. I had a hard time keeping up with J.K. Rowling re-explaining Hogwarts, the Dursleys, why HP is staying with his aunt and uncle, and He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named. But push through. I can’t stop saying it: push through the first three chapters, and then you’ll get to the good stuff. Plus, who doesn’t like Cedric Diggory? 5/5

“The Bromance Book Club” by Lyssa Kay Adams // Ok. I had to set down my wand and Quidditch broom for some more light reading. I was having a hard couple of weeks this past month, so I picked up “The Bromance Book Club.” And whew, I blew right through it! Nashville baseball player Gavin is having a hard time in his marriage—his wife is asking for a divorce. But it’s up to a book club comprised of all big, strong men and a romance novel to teach him how to “woo” and “court” his wife again. I took such pleasure and delight from this book, and it definitely got me into a romance reading mood. Consider picking up the sequel, “Undercover Bromance,” I know I will! 4/5

What I’m Currently Reading:

“Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” by J.K. Rowling (Book Five) // Lol, yes. I picked up the fifth book of the HP series, naturally, and I am getting through it. So far, it’s not my favorite, but the trio hasn’t even made it to Hogwarts where I’m at as I write this, so I trust that it will speed up. But—Sirius Black is in it, so I can’t complain.

Book Wishlist:

“This Will Only Hurt A Little” by Busy Philipps // I can hardly wait for this to come in the mail! Truthfully, I ordered it this past weekend because I saw her appear in a re-run of New Girl, and I remember her book being about growing up in Hollywood as a “bigger” girl. Truly, truly excited to read.

“The Hating Game” by Sally Thorne // “The Bromance Book Club"“ got me, guys. I am reading more romance. I am excited to read this one not only because of the intriguing plot, but the two leads work in the publishing industry.
