Book Review: Lovelight Farms by B.K. Borison

Holy sh—cheese balls. This book was a DELIGHT. If I can say a book is perfection, I would. But that’s too much pressure on one book and so therefore, it is almost perfection. This book has everything I want in a romance book … and more, if that’s possible?

Synopsis:

Two best friends fake date to reach their holiday happily ever after in this first romantic comedy in the Lovelight series.

A pasture of dead trees. A hostile takeover of the Santa barn by a family of raccoons. And shipments that have mysteriously gone missing. Lovelight Farms is not the magical winter wonderland of Stella Bloom's dreams.

In an effort to save the Christmas tree farm she's loved since she was a kid, Stella enters a contest with Instagram-famous influencer Evelyn St. James. With the added publicity and the $100,000 cash prize, Stella might just be able to save the farm from its financial woes. There's just one problem. To make the farm seem like a romantic destination for the holidays, she lied on her application and said she owns Lovelight Farms with her boyfriend. Only...there is no boyfriend.

Enter best friend Luka Peters. He just stopped by for some hot chocolate and somehow got a farm and a serious girlfriend in the process. But fake dating his best friend might be the best Christmas present he's ever received

My Review of Lovelight Farms:

You can take the two main characters, Stella and Luca, and replace them with Lorelai and Luke from Gilmore Girls and no one would notice. There are slight differences here and there, but they are pretty much one and the same.

Stella is the owner of a Christmas tree farm (a recent owner, if I’ve understood correctly) and the farm is struggling. I mean, it’s a Christmas tree farm and despite it being open to the public all-year-round with farm changes according to each season (pumpkin patch in the fall), the farm struggles to keep up financially, but it does alright. Stella enters a social media competition hosted by popular social media influencer Evelyn St. James (did anyone else think Evelyn Hugo and Celia St. James from The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo??) to win a cash prize and a feature of Lovelight Farms on Evelyn’s blog. The only catch? Stella said, on a whim, she co-owns the farm with her (nonexistent) boyfriend, who happens to be her best friend, Luca, whom she’s been in love with for nine years, or ever since they met.

Now Stella and Luca must fake date (a trope that I always approve of) for Evelyn when she comes into town. But Stella and Luca both don’t know that both of them have been crushing on each other for the nine-year friendship they’ve shared.

I always love a good fake dating trope, however, this book isn’t just good for that reason. The small town busybodies, the Christmas vibes, the handsome and scruffy side character Beckett (and his kittens), and the town that resembles a small town called Stars Hollow—I love it all. I was excited to learn the book has a three-book series and VERY excited to dive into the second book which covers the POV of Beckett (my fav) and Evelyn St. James, something I was very pleasantly surprised to read more of.

If you’re looking for a small town romance to fuel your Gilmore Girls nostalgia, then look no further than Lovelight Farms. You don’t even need to wait until Christmas to read this book set on a Christmas tree farm.
