13 #BookTok Books To Gift Someone In Your Life To Start Their Reading Journey

I love #BookTok and everything about it. It creates this incredible and amazing space where readers can talk about the books they love (and sometimes, the books they don’t love) and also where non-readers can come and find the joy of reading (again).

For this gift guide, I wanted to include a round-up of books, specifically #BookTok books to gift someone in your life who may not be a reader, but wants to kickstart their reading journey. Or perhaps, set new reading goals in the new year.

If you have any other book recommendations from #BookTok, feel free to put them in the comments below! I gathered these from my own personal reading experience and research.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

One of my all-time favorite books, I can’t recommend this book enough. This book has it all—historical fiction, old Hollywood, LGBTQ romance, romance—you name it. It’s also written in flashbacks. The main character, Monique, is interviewing an older Evelyn Hugo on Evelyn’s past and her career spanning several decades. I listened to this book on audio which I highly recommend but I just highly recommend giving this book to someone! (And reading it yourself, of course.)

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

This one is for the romance readers! Gift this book for the one who loves watching rom-coms on Netflix and is a sucker for a good love story. This fake dating, academic romance is sure to please any romance reader in your life.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Maybe for the Game of Thrones lover in your life? I wouldn’t compare this to GOT specifically, but it is fantasy but it can also be for someone who enjoys reading romance as well but doesn’t want a cheesy rom-com. In my opinion, this is a perfect gateway book into fantasy novels.

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

If anyone in your life has seen and loved Knives Out, then definitely give them this book. This book is perfect for fans of mystery, thrill, and puzzles—yes, puzzles. Jennifer Lynn Barnes is a fantastic YA author.

Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez

I haven’t read this one yet, as it’s on my shelf as I write this, but Abby Jimenez is a wonderful author with great recommendations and this is a great book gift to give someone in your life.

The Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand

Is someone in your life looking for the perfect beach read? Look no further than Elin Hilderbrand, the queen of beach reads. Almost all of her books (if not all) are set on Nantucket, and are just good, cozy beach reads. This one is one of her latest novels as it released this past year (2022), and it was an absolute delight to read.

Verity by Colleen Hoover

I haven’t read this myself, but this one is HIGHLY recommended. If you get one book off this list for someone in your life who wants to get into reading, this book is it. Colleen Hoover is a bestselling author and very popular on #BookTok. Grab this book for someone in your life so that you can discuss that ending with someone else.

The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

Another book I haven’t read yet, but it has come highly recommended. TikTok raves about this thriller that keeps you on your edge of your seat. Definitely consider giving this a gift to your mom, aunt, older sister, friend, or colleague.

American Royals by Katherine McGee

I don’t know if this book is popular on #BookTok, but it should. Is someone in your life obsessed with the Royal Family? Buy this book for them. It’s young adult, so maybe someone younger in your life, but still, this book is an absolute joy to read. The book’s concept is if George Washington was named King of America and not President, and so, the book follows the Washington family as a monarchy and two of the main characters are the daughters in the Washington family. There are three books in this series and a fourth one coming soon-ish!

It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey

Does someone love romance and rom-coms? Look no further than Tessa Bailey. While The Love Hypothesis is good for people who love cheesy rom-coms, Tessa Bailey writes more … adult rom-coms. Smut? Check. This book is highly recommended on #BookTok and for good reason. I read it and immediately gave it five stars. Also—it is going to be a movie!

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

The season one of the TV series landed on Amazon Prime this past summer (2022), with season two coming soon-ish, so why not gift this to a young adult or teen in your life? This is a great teen romance that’s short and sweet and full of cheesy romance.

The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas

I love romance novels, so this list is filled with romance novels. I haven’t read this one yet, but I read The American Roommate Experiment (next on the list) and loved it. This book is a great enemies-to-lovers romance with a lot of spice in there that can be great for the older romance novel lover in your life. This book dominated #BookTok for a while and gift this book to someone in your life for them to join in on the fun.

The American Roommate Experiment by Elena Armas

Because I included The Spanish Love Deception, I couldn’t ignore the sequel’s main characters, Rosie and Lucas. To me, I loved this book because the main character was a romance author. And it was a one-bed romance trope. And it was a forced proximity romance trope. And it was a fake dating romance trope. I just love all these tropes and will highly recommend this book!

I hope that you got at least one book off this list to gift to someone in your life! If anything, reading is always fun and giving someone the gift of a book you love is meaningful and I highly recommend.
