9 Books I'd Love To Be Adapted Into Movies + TV Shows

When I was 11 years old, I emailed one of my favorite authors of the time, Lauren Myracle (author of the Eleven series), to ask if the series would be turned into a movie. She wrote back, letting me down gently that she would love that to happen, but she doesn’t know anyone in the industry. Devastated but excited that an author emailed me back, I put the books on the shelves and I never donated them.

However, with the rise of books being adapted into movies and TV shows, I found it intriguing to put together a roundup of books that I’d love to be adapted—in addition to the books already being adapted. Without further ado, here are the books I would LOVE being adapted to the big screen.

books i'd love to be turned into movies

The Deal by Elle Kennedy

I am personally surprised that I put this on the list, however, I need this to be a TV series—or a movie, but I would very much prefer this to be a TV series where each season focuses on each book in the Briar U series. (For the sake of this blog post, this will only cover the first four books.) There can be some overlap, kind of like the Bridgerton series where each season focuses on one book but other lead characters from other books can have their own storylines play out on the side. I just want to see Garrett Graham and Hannah together on the screen, played by whoever. My choice? I would say Sabrina Carpenter as Hannah and Garrett Graham as Christopher Briney, or the guy who plays Conrad Fisher in The Summer I Turned Pretty series. I think he would play an excellent Garrett, but I would think it hits too close to home as Conrad, and he may want to play a different character after TSITP wraps. Still, I’d love to see this book series come to the screens.

American Royals by Katherine McGee

I don’t think I’m the only one who wants this to come to the screen. I mean, c’mon, a book about if America was a monarchy and it’s a young adult romance where teens are in line to become kings and queens and then there are backstabbing ladies of the court and then there’s a Will/Kate romance where a prince falls in love with a “regular” (lack of a better word) girl? This would absolutely go insane on Hulu and would have everyone talking. I think that this can be done—I just hope a producer or screenwriter is reading this blog post. If that’s you, please make this into a series.

The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory

I read somewhere that this is potentially in the works, maybe by Hello Sunshine, but I haven’t heard anything about it so it’s going on the list. I love Jasmine Guillory’s writing and I think that this would make an excellent rom-com, especially for Netflix and Hello Sunshine. It’s a typical wedding rom-com, and it’s probably similar to The Wedding Date or any other wedding movie, but idk—I think this can be done and again, it may already be in the works.

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

A young adult mystery where a young 18-year-old girl inherits a billion dollar fortune from an Old man whom she’s never met? But then she has to stay in the mansion—with the rest of the old man’s family—for an entire year to claim the fortune? Oh, and then there’s puzzles to go along with it to solve the mystery of why he left her the fortune in the first place? Throw a couple of romances on top of that and you got yourself the new hit show for Gen Z. Fans of Knives Out will surely love this—especially as a series.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Again, I think this is already in the works but again, I haven’t heard anything about it so it’s staying on this list. I think that this series is so interesting that it can appeal to a wide audience, even non-fantasy readers. It’s special like that, like how people loved Game of Thrones. It’s the young adult GOT. I definitely am looking forward to reading any news about this series on Hulu but this is one fantasy series that I’m anticipating.

Secrets of My Hollywood Life by Jen Calonita

I read this in middle school and became quickly obsessed. I fell in love with all things Hollywood and reading Hollywood-themed books (The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Funny You Should Ask, etc.) since reading this book. It’s become a comfort read. That’s why I NEED this to be a movie or series—preferably a movie, because there is a lot to cover in this. It kinda comes across as Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide with the tips and everything, but secrets of Hollywood. Kaitlin Burke is a teenage soap opera star who breaks into movies and has a long-standing rivalry with her co-star. She is desperate to have a “normal” life, apart from her celebrity life and hatches a Hannah Montana plan with her best friend, Liz, to go undercover at her best friend’s high school, Clark High. But things get tricky as she meets new friends, a potential love interest, and even as her career as a movie star accelerates. Personally, I think Emma Roberts should play Kaitlin Burke. I will not accept any other people—unless they’re just as good. But I just need this as a movie. Please, if the screenwriter or producer has read this far, please take this as my plea to make this a movie series. There are six books!

People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry

AHHH, the one Emily Henry book that I’d love to be turned into a movie is PWMOV. I think Florence Pugh should play Poppy, and that’s enough of that. I think it would be such a great summer travel movie that gives off Mamma Mia vibes. Please, please, please make this into a movie! Or any Emily Henry book, really.

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

This is probably my favorite Christina Lauren book, so that’s why it made the list. I think this would be a great wedding movie, like The Wedding Date, however, this time, it would be an enemies-to-lovers situation on a honeymoon. No spoilers, but I think this would be so hilarious and I can’t even think who would play the two main characters, but I just know they’d have to get someone funny.

One To Watch by Kate Stayman-London

I need this as a movie. It’s about a plus-sized Bachelorette who goes on the show accidentally because she wrote a blog post on her plus-size fashion blog all about the show and how it’s anti-body positivity. I think that this potential movie would be great fat representation and show little girls all around the world that they deserve love, no matter what size you are.

Legendborn by Tracy Deonn

I haven’t put enough fantasy books on this list, so ending it with a good one. This is a great young adult romance that’s set on a college campus so I think it could target college students. It’s filled with magic and King Arthur but also explores themes like grief and trauma. I highly recommend reading this one and wish this could be made into a movie!

Are there any books that you want to see adapted into a movie or TV show? Let me know in the comments!
