A Roundup of Backlist Books That I Want To Read

Starting from 2022, I thought about putting together a list of backlist books that I want to read. Backlist meaning books from 2022 and earlier. Maybe that doesn’t mean backlist to you, but it does to me, and well, this is my blog. Have you read any of these? I’d love to hear your opinions!

Better Than The Movies by Lynn Painter

I’ve been wanting to read Lynn Painter’s books for a while now, but I feel like they’re a bit too young for me. I’ve gradually aged out of young adult books, but I’ve heard great things about Lynn Painter and I love the premise of this one. It’s definitely near the top of my list.

The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas

I loved The American Roommate Experiment by Elena Armas, which is the “sequel” to this book! (I hardly read books in order, lol.) This book took #BookTok by storm and I can’t wait to add it to my list. Something in me has held me back from picking it up at the bookstore, however, so can anyone convince me to finally pick it up? I still can’t wait to read it!

The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

I’m not typically into thrillers, but I’ve heard SO many great things about this book on #BookTok and think that it’s finally time to read it. Plus, I heard there’s a sequel coming soon. Has anyone read this one? Let me know what you think!

The Worst Best Man by Mia Sosa

Any book involving a wedding has me hooked already. Ever since The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory, I’ve loved a good wedding romance book. This book sounds very intriguing—an enemies-to-lovers romance where they have to work together on something. Can’t wait!

Josh & Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren

A Christina Lauren book can be 50/50 for me. I’m a fan of their books, but some, not so much. However, I heard positive reviews about this one so I’m interested to see what the hype is about. Apparently it’s a friends-to-lovers book.

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I loved TJR’s historical fiction books, including The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones & The Six. So I’m VERY excited to begin reading Malibu Rising because it’s set in the 1980s and also includes Mick Riva, or the famous rockstar who is casually mentioned in the previously mentioned books. This book features Mick Riva’s seven children in one night at this one party. Have you read this one? Let me know what you think!

A Pho Love Story by Loan Le

This sounds like if Romeo and Juliet’s families owned pho restaurants, and honestly, I’m here for it. Bao and Linh both work in their families’ pho restaurants, and they suspect there’s more than just friendly competition going on between their two families. When the two have a chance to connect, they wonder why it took so long for them to connect … and then they remember. This sounds interesting enough and sounds like it could be a fun beach read!

Last Chance Books by Kelsey Rodkey

I will buy any book that features books or a bookstore. This book sounds like a modern-day You’ve Got Mail (even though that movie is from the 90s lol) so as a devoted fan of that movie, I will absolutely be picking it up.

If This Gets Out by Sophie Gonzales and Cale Dietrich

I heard this is a One Direction fan fiction, and that’s all I needed to hear in order to add this to my list. Have you read this one? Please let me know what you thought!

One True Loves by Elise Bryant

I read Happily Ever After by Elise Bryant, a young adult romance, and absolutely adored it. I thought it was so cute and fun (and about writing a book!) so I was ecstatic when I found out there’s a sequel about the side character, Lenore! But with all of the new books coming out since then, this fell to the wayside so I’m excited to add this to my TBR—finally!

The Counselors by Jessica Goodman

I read They Wish They Were Us by Jessica Goodman in 2021 and I thought it was okay. I thought it was a bit too predictable and I don’t know, something about young adult thrillers doesn’t hook me in like regular thrillers do. I do want to read her next book, The Counselors, which is if a bunch of rich kids went to summer camp and worked at camp, because that does sound intriguing at least. I heard she has a new book coming out soon so maybe I’ll read this book around the time her next book comes out!

You & I, Rewritten by Chip Pons

This has been sitting on my list for SO LONG and I don’t know what I’ve been doing by putting this off! I follow @chippons on bookstagram and find his account so delightful. I keep meaning to pick this up at the bookstore. No excuses. Definitely read more about it here—it’s so worth it if you haven’t already!

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

The only fantasy book on this list. I have this book sitting on my shelf and I’m back and forth on reading it. I heard it’s addicting, but I heard it’s not the best book in the series (much like ACOTAR). Will I read it eventually? Maybe. I’m still deciding. Definitely read more about it!

One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston

I love Casey McQuiston’s writing. This is the only book of hers that I haven’t read and I don’t know, I’m not sure if I can get into it. It has a supernatural twist to it, something different than her other books, so I don’t know how I’ll feel about it. I don’t think it makes a huge difference in the plot. I think there’s time travel involved or time stops for a day. I have the book on my shelf so I can pick it up whenever I want to.

The Hookup Plan by Farrah Rochon

Ahhh. When I first read the description, I thought that this is perfect for fans of Jasmine Guillory and Grey’s Anatomy fans, weirdly. It’s a casual relationship type romance trope, where the main character wants a casual relationship. But the guy in question? He is there in her city to decide whether the hospital she works at should remain open. Honestly? This sounds like a real treat and I’m excited to start this.

There are all the backlist books that I want to read! Just kidding. There are probably countless others, but these are the ones that are on my TBR. (Honestly, my TBR isn’t even this short.) I think picking up an author’s backlist books is just as fun as picking up their newest ones. It means showing your love and support to the oldies and not just the new ones. Hope you enjoy some of these if you haven’t read any and if you have, let me know what you think of any of these in the comments!
