A Round-Up of Delightful Christmas Movies That Will Bring a Smile to Even the Scrooge of the Family

It’s Christmastime; it’s Christmas movie season! Freeform announced their 25 Days Before Christmas way back in November, but I thought it’d be fun to round up a list of my favorite holiday movies that I always watch this season (and have been known to watch throughout the year).

  1. The Santa Clause - 1, 2, & 3 (Disney+)

This is by far one of my favorite Christmas movie series, if not my favorite. Tim Allen is phenomenal as Santa, and continues to amaze in the sequels following the first one—a rarity in holiday sequels. It is an absolute must watch every Christmas season; watch it with a piping hot cup of cocoa!

2. The Princess Switch (Netflix)

How did Vanessa Hudgens become the queen of (Netflix) Christmas? Vanessa Hudgens plays not only a baker from Chicago but a duchess from fancy Montenaro (fictional). Stacy Abrams is a baker from Chicago who travels with her sous chef, Kevin, and his daughter Olivia, to Belgravia for a baking competition. There, she switches lives with Duchess Lady Margaret, who looks identical to her, who is engaged to be married to the Prince of Belgravia, Edward. When they switch, Stacy spends time with Prince Edward and finds herself falling for Edward—and ya already know, Duchess Lady Margaret spends some time with good ole Kevin. Watch on Netflix, and then watch the sequel that just came out in 2020.

3. The Princess Switch 2: Switched Again (Netflix)

Vanessa Hudgens, but three times. (I tried to make it a joke.) Stacy and Margaret, along with Edward and Kevin, return in “The Princess Switch 2: Switched Again.” However, the evil cousin whatshername is also played by the multi-talented Vanessa Hudgens, who plays the evil cousin influencer who just hopped off the plane from Fyre Festival. Watch on Netflix.

4. The Christmas Prince (Netflix)

This is probably by far, in my opinion, the cheesiest Christmas movie on Netflix. And there’s a lot of cheesiness on Netflix nowadays. But this movie takes the cake for its cheesiness.

5. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Netflix)

A classic. A must-watch every Christmas season. Jim Carrey plays a fantastic Grinch, and who doesn’t fall in love with the Whos of Whoville during Christmas?

6. Christmas with the Kranks

Tim Allen is a Christmas icon. Let’s be real. He plays a grinch in almost every beginning Christmas movie, and then ends up the lovable Santa (real or not). And who can’t love Jamie Lee Curtis?! Hands down, this is one of the funniest, most delightful Christmas movies to watch during the holidays with a nice piping cup of hot cocoa.

7. THE Polar Express

This is an absolute gem of a movie, and it is a must watch along with every other movie before it on this list. Tom Hanks is a genius and will have you laughing, crying, and singing along to this Christmas classic.

8. Home Alone (1 & 2)

I love this movie because it’s not your typical Santa Clause or Grinch movie. To be honest, I was always scared of this movie growing up because I was terrified of burglars. But … Catherine O’Hara is in these movies, and well, she’s one of the greatest actresses of our time. #isaidwhatisaid

9. Elf

Ummm, how is this not on your Christmas movie list? Will Ferrell is absolutely delightful in this Christmas comedy classic film. He plays rambunctious and hilariously adorable Buddy the Elf who leaves the North Pole to find his biological father—who doesn’t know he existed—in Manhattan. What do you get when you set a grown elf loose in New York City? They meet Zooey Deschanel. Watch this immediately!

10. The Holiday

Brb, channeling Cameron Diaz for the rest of 2020—okay, I’m more of a Kate Winslet from this movie. I mean, who can’t watch this movie every holiday season? Honestly, I would watch this all year round! It has Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law AND Jack Black? Now that’s a cast.

11. Last Holiday

Queen Latifah in a holiday movie? Yes, please! Again, I would watch this movie all year round just because it is just delightful and it will make you sob. Love, love this movie!

12. Love Actually

One of my absolute favorite Christmas movies. What a cast. At least one third of the cast is from the Harry Potter movies, and Hugh Grant dancing alone in his house? I mean, c’mon if that’s not reason enough you also have the interesting love stories to keep up with.

13. Just FriendS

I wouldn’t normally put this in a Christmas movie round-up list, but I saw this on Pinterest, on a Christmas movie list, and I thought, huh. It is a very heartwarming movie, and it actually makes me tear up. Ryan Reynolds is absolutely hilarious in this movie.

14. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

A Christmas classic. Enough said.

15. Little Women

You have to include this 2019 remake in a Christmas movie round-up! A must watch this Christmas season! The 2019 remake starring Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Saorise Ronan and of course, Timothee Chalet is just a must watch every Christmas season as well!
