5 Things You Might Not Know About Me

I’ve been blogging on and off for years now. I’ve switched up blogs, and I think I finally found one that stuck. If you’ve been reading along, you probably know who I am (generally). But if you’re new, I thought I’d mix it up and give y’all a little background info and fun facts about me. So here goes.

  1. I was born and raised Richmond, VA, but I call Alexandria, VA my home.

A small town outside of Richmond, VA, I grew up in the muddy fields and wearing camo (just kidding). But I did sort of grow up on a farm, it was just a big piece of land with no animals. I always wished to get out of a small town, but now I see the simplicities of a small town and I cherish those memories. I see myself eventually settling down in a small city somewhere, or New York. No in between.

2. I couldn’t talk for the first two years of my life. (So I started reading instead.)

Ahh, this one. I was diagnosed with oral apraxia, which basically meant that I couldn’t sound out real words. I went to a speech pathologist and speech therapy in elementary school (during pre-school) and there, learned to sound out words using sounds like “th” and “ch” and “sh.” Apparently, I had difficulty with the sound “ch.” Interesting, right? Don’t worry, I can say the word “church.” But in light of that early diagnosis, I became an avid reader. I read EVERYTHING. I wasn’t reading The Davinci Code or anything, but I picked up any book that I could find. While my sounds are doing fine now, I still thank my parents for putting a book in front of me!

3. Coffee is my love language. (And words of affirmation, too.)

I’m literally writing this post with my second cup of coffee next to me. But in all seriousness, words of affirmation are my love language. When I think about my mental health and anxiety, I think I feel valued when someone TELLS me that I’m good, or enough. This can translate into my faith life, too. I look to His Word whenever I’m feeling anxious and stressed, or when I’m not feeling good enough. I need to start relying on His Words and less on other people’s words.

4. I’m a visual learner.

Back to the whole words of affirmation thing, I’m a visual learner. Whether that’s through words or pictures, either way helps. Like, I’d rather someone write it down versus try to explain it to me. It’s more tedious but it’s in writing and it helps my brain comprehend!

5. Blogging is something I see myself doing long-term, even if it is just a hobby.

Finally, blogging is something that I see myself doing long-term. Even if it is just a hobby and even if I do end up with 5 followers. It’s just something that I’m passionate about doing and I have always loved writing! (That takes me back to the speech therapy and early onset of reading!)
